Maciej Maselko

Associate Professor Maciej Maselko is an animal synthetic biologist at Macquarie University whose research develops genome-engineering technologies to address environmental challenges. His laboratory works across insects, fish, amphibians, and other animal systems to build tools for bioremediation, sustainable biomanufacturing, genetic biocontrol, and population-scale genome editing. His group has engineered fish for methylmercury bioremediation, developed intragenerational genetic biocontrol methods for pest suppression, advanced CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing in cane toads, and proposed Allele Sails as a framework for population-scale genome editing without persistent gene-drive systems. Across these projects, his work focuses on building genetic technologies that are scalable, targeted, and responsive to ecological and regulatory constraints.
