Propose a workshop
What AGBT looks for in a workshop, what the meeting provides, and how to submit a proposal for AGBT Agriculture or AGBT Precision Health.
AGBT invites proposals for workshops held in conjunction with AGBT Agriculture and AGBT Precision Health.
Workshops provide an opportunity to share your science, convene your community, and advance collaborative work alongside the broader AGBT meeting. We welcome proposals from research networks, consortia, funded collaborations, academic and nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and industry.
Workshops may be used to bring an established community together around shared research goals, launch or advance a collaborative initiative, engage new participants in an emerging area, or provide focused exploration of important scientific topics, technologies, and challenges.
Workshop opportunities
Workshops may include scientific symposia, consortium or research-network meetings, panel discussions, tutorials, hands-on sessions, working sessions, technology demonstrations, or other interactive formats. Typical sessions range from approximately 60 minutes to four hours, depending on the meeting and available program space.
We particularly welcome proposals that:
- Convene established or emerging scientific communities, including research networks, consortia, and collaborative initiatives
- Create opportunities to share findings and advance jointly funded or collaborative research
- Address timely scientific or technical topics relevant to the AGBT community
- Bring together diverse disciplines, institutions, sectors, or perspectives
- Encourage new collaborations and meaningful participant engagement
- Explore emerging opportunities, technologies, or challenges
- Advance research, education, and innovation in genomics and related fields
What AGBT provides
For selected workshops, AGBT may provide:
- Complimentary meeting registration for up to five workshop organizers or speakers
- Standard audiovisual equipment and technical support
- Workshop sign-up opportunities for meeting attendees
- Promotion through the AGBT website and communications
- Planning and onsite support from the AGBT meetings team
Specific benefits and logistics may vary by meeting and workshop format.
Commercial workshops
AGBT prioritizes workshops that provide scientific, educational, or community value. Proposals organized by or primarily focused on commercial organizations, products, or services will also be considered, with preference given to AGBT sponsors and exhibitors.
Proposal review
Proposals are reviewed by the AGBT team in consultation with the Organizing Committee co-chairs for the applicable meeting. Considerations include relevance to the meeting, scientific or educational value, timeliness, opportunities for collaboration and engagement, diversity of perspectives, and feasibility. All organizers are notified of the outcome following the review process.
Planning ahead
Workshop proposals are typically considered 6 to 10 months in advance of each meeting. Groups interested in convening research networks, consortia, or other scientific communities are encouraged to plan early, particularly when funding or travel support for participants may be required. Priority deadlines are posted for each meeting, and additional proposals may be considered as space permits.
