Julie Gray

Julie Gray is a Professor in the School of Biosciences at the University of Sheffield. She is interested in plant environmental signalling responses, particularly those that trigger the closing of stomatal pores, or determine how many stomata develop on the leaf surface. Her stomatal work creating crops with enhanced water use efficiency, is on display in the Science Musuem in London.

Julie studied Biochemistry at Liverpool University and was a PhD student at Nottingham University where she researched genes that control fruit ripening. She carried out postdoctoral work at the University of Melbourne investigating how flowers prevent self-pollination. Julie is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) and was recently awarded a Leverhulme Senior Fellowship.
