Carroll and Milton Petrie Professor of Biology, New York University
Gloria Coruzzi is the Carroll and Milton Petrie Professor of Biology at New York University’s Center for Genomics and Systems Biology. Her pioneering work in plant systems biology has developed and deployed genomic and machine learning approaches that can accurately predict and validate gene regulatory networks (GRNs) controlling plant nitrogen (NUE) and water use (WUE) efficiency that underlie crop production and sustainability. This AI inspired approach has identified transcription factor (TF)-target gene sets, TF-Regulons, for engineering that rachet up NUE/WUE to enhance crop production in a changing climate.
Dr. Coruzzi is a Member of the National Academy of Sciences and an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. She is also an Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement (AAAS) and the American Society of Plant Biology (ASPB), where she has been recognized as a Pioneer and is a recipient of the Stephen Hales Prize. Dr. Coruzzi serves on several scientific advisory boards including the DOE Joint Genome Institute (JGI) Plant Program Advisory Board and editorial boards including The Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS).
