Eske Willerslev

Eske Willerslev, DSc, is the Prince Philip Professor of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Cambridge and a professor and director of the Centre of Excellence in GeoGenetics at the University of Copenhagen. He is an internationally recognized evolutionary geneticist whose research uses ancient and environmental DNA to explore human evolution, migration, population history, ecology, and the origins of present-day genetic diversity and disease.Dr. Willerslev has pioneered methods for recovering and analyzing DNA from ancient remains and environmental samples, enabling new insights into prehistoric populations, extinct species, and past ecosystems. His work has helped transform understanding of how people migrated, adapted, and interacted across continents over thousands of years.He is a Foreign Associate of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters. His research has been widely published in leading scientific journals and has been featured in international documentaries and public programs focused on ancient DNA and human history.
