Bishal Tamang

Bishal Tamang is a Research Scientist in the Lisa Ainsworth lab at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign specializing in crop stress physiology. He holds a PhD in Agronomy and Crop Sciences from Virginia Tech. His research centers on understanding how crops respond to environmental challenges like drought and flooding at both physiological and molecular levels. Currently, Dr. Tamang leads efforts to develop soybean populations with altered canopy architecture using CRISPR gene editing technology. Previously, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota, he developed high-throughput phenotyping platforms for small grain crops. Dr. Tamang has published 16 peer-reviewed articles and actively contributes to scientific communication as an ambassador for the RIPE (Realizing Increased Photosynthetic Efficiency) project.
